- Tell us a little about yourself.Since the birth of my daughter I have become quite an introverted mother. I love to read, craft, cook and nourish my little family any way I can. It's just three of us and we have been trying to get pregnant for almost a year now since I suffered a miscarriage. Prior to becoming a mother, I attended a community college for dental assisting and worked for two years in that field.
- What effects has fertility awareness had on your relationship? My husband does the charting. I love that he can ask me what my readings were for the day and I can trust him to notate it correctly. This has absolutely brought us together because he can see why I might be moody or if something is off and he reports it to me. For abstinence and for trying to achieve pregnancy it has been the gift that keeps on giving. We are thrilled to be able to watch my body cycle and predict patterns.
- Current Method: Marquette - How did you find your instructor?I think I just Googled it but it's been a while now. I can't remember. I received initial instructions only.
- Describe your daily charting routine.I've been charting since i was engaged so it's been 5 years. I track temp, mucus, and use ovulation strips. When we aren't trying to conceive its a blessing. Overall, now that we have been trying to conceive for a while it has become quite a burden. Its very hard to keep the romance planning to have intercourse when you're going to be ovulating.
- What made you choose this method?I needed more specific markers for ovulation so that we could track my cycle after having my daughter. I love that it shows my cycle progression. It's the easiest to understand overall the other methods I've learned.
- Has charting helped you to understand your overall health?Yes absolutely so. I had bad irregular cycles and when I found different supplements or things that helped I could see it in my charts. It has helped me identify PMS prior to my period for sure as well as understanding my PCOS.
- Did you switch to this method from another one? If so, why?I wanted a more exact method. The transaction was much easier than the previous methods.
- Previous Method: Couple to Couple League - How did you find your instructor? It was my sister and brother in law at our old parish. The fee was I believe a couple hundred and it included supplies, initial class and follow up help.
- Describe your daily charting routine.Every day charting, mucus, and temperature only for this method. It was exhausting and hard to read especially because at the time I used this method I was having 60 day cycles with brown bleeding. I couldn't figure out where i was in my cycle at all.
- What made you choose this method? It was all I'd ever heard about growing up so I assumed I needed it. I liked temperature once my cycles regulated but overall I hated it for everything else. It didn't show me enough about my body.
- Has charting helped you to understand your overall health?Yes, please see previous answer
- Did you stop using this method? If so, why?I stopped using nfp but I do still chart temperature along with the other two methods I use.
- Previous Method: Creighton Model - How did you find your instructor?Another sister of mine who sought this woman out gave me her information. I received initial and follow ups. Initial was more expensive (I don't remember), the follow ups are $60 each. I had to do them for a full year and now I can choose to have them as needed.
- Describe your daily charting routine.I use Creighton to have a visual color chart as well as because it's required for my NaPro doctor. I have combined it with Marquette and temperature. I liked Creighton at first but because it goes off mucus it wasn't very accurate after I had my daughter. I use to make a lot of mucus but after I had my daughter it stopped so Creighton didn't really tell me exactly when I ovulated and the window for abstinence (before we were TTC) was too big. After it no longer helped me much I started to be negatively impacted by it and I knew we needed a new method.
- What made you choose this method?Needed it for my NaPro. It's nice because it offers a visual representation of the cycle but if one doesn't make much mucus it can be more difficult, especially figuring out what will help that mucus production.
- Has charting helped you to understand your overall health?Yes, see previous response
- Did you switch to this method from another one? If so, why?I no longer could go off NFP after I had my daughter due to 60 day cycles even after a year of no breastfeeding. The transition was alright. It definitely is a harder method to understand and at times it gets pretty frustrating but if you have a NaPro who requires it then it's needed
