- Tell us a little about yourself.Catholic since middle school, history of hbc and other contraception methods, stay at home mom, high school graduate, some college courses, 35 yrs old, married my hs sweetheart (he is not a Catholic and NFP is a cross at times), I like to cook and crochet and embroider
- What effects has fertility awareness had on your relationship?NFP has been a challenge. It has strengthened and weakened our relationship in a variety of ways. I chart, he respects and asks questions. I interpret the data and give my assessment of fertility and he decides whether or not he's comfortable with intimacy at that point. I am still open to more babies so this has worked for us.
- First Method: Marquette - How did you find your instructor?I didn't use an instructor but was ultimately discouraged from continuing when I described my cycle lengths and typical clearblue readings
- Describe your daily charting routine.I would use the clearblue monitor daily in the morning. It was super easy and that was nice but had zero room for interpretation which was not great for my very long cycles.
- What made you choose this method?Ease of use and curiosity. I loved the ease. I hated that I would have over a month of abstinence at a time every singe cycle.
- Has charting helped you to understand your overall health?Yes and no. It did help me to realize that there had to be a deeper issue.
- Did you switch to this method from another one? If so, why?I hated the need to be so careful to remember to temp every morning with STM. The transition was easy because I was much more awake and aware after shuffling to the restroom than I was upon first waking. I never struggled to remember to catch my urine for testing in the same way.
- Did you stop using this method? If so, why?I would have long extended periods of all high readings on the monitor and I hated it.
- Second Method: Couple to Couple League - How did you find your instructor?Online. I don't remember the cost. I had only initial instruction and even that was inconsistent. I ended up supplementing their materials with assistence on Kindara and by reading the TCOYF book. But I follow CCL STM rules.
- Describe your daily charting routine.I use the tempdrop to take my temperature at night, which has been a lifesaver. I check cm using toilet paper at every non-bm bathroom trip and check a few times a day my cervical positioning and firmness. It is manageable and I feel like it gives me way more insight into my body than Marquette did.
- What made you choose this method?Primarily, my cycle lengths (which can at times be as long as 90 days even when not breastfeeding or anything) and the fact that cervical fluid is my most consistent indicator of fertility.
- Has charting helped you to understand your overall health?Yes! I was able to discuss my health concerns with my provider and she pursued various possibilities before we determined I have hypothyroidism. Being able.to competently discuss aspects of my health such as mucus patterns and luetal phase length really aided me in getting an accurate diagnosis.
- Did you stop using this method? If so, why?I tried Marquette for a while to see if I could find something less likely to fall victim to my forgetfulness but it didn't work for us.
